Summer 2010

The Reverse "1 in 10"

I can't even BEGIN to say how awesome P-Town was!!!!!! I owe Tabs big time for letting me stay with her...! : )

It was a quick 2.5 hour drive, traffic-free. I didn't actually get on the road until 7:30, so it was no wonder the roads were free and clear.

The second I got to the Guest House Tabs was staying at, I dropped off my bags and we went right out to Vixen, a women's club. The second we walked in, I was in awe. I have never seen so many mullets in one place in my entire life! They were in all shapes, lengths, and colors... it was both horrifying and fascinating at the same time.

After I got over the shock of the crowd of C.O.D.'s, my emotions turned to disgust as I listened to the awful music the DJ was spinning. At one point I decided to ask him if he could play something faster. About 5 minutes later he obliged, but the tracks were still just as bad.

Tabs went off to get a drink and I leaned up against a wall. I had already had two, so I wanted to slow down. So there I stood at a women's bar, slightly buzzed and totally disappointed.

Then I saw this cute curly-haired woman walk up to the DJ booth. She appeared to be making a similar request that I had made earlier. After her brief conversation she turned and headed in my direction.

"Doesn't this music just suck?" she asked me.

"That's probably the biggest understatement," I replied. "I want to dance so bad, but I'm so unmotivated."

She laughed and said, "Well, we should suffer through it together. Let's go out there."

I grinned and followed her onto the floor. The DJ was spinning a slower retro beat, a genre which I ordinarily like, except I have no idea where he got his songs from. They were awful. I was guessing he probably waited for bargain record outlets to sell rejects for $2.00 a piece and knows the owner of the club. Either that or had some kind of blackmail weapon on the management. Throughout the night I watched people go up and complain. I'm sure this must not have been the first time people have balked about his sets.

Anyway, the girl, named Monica, absolutely stunned me. She was an inch shorter than me, had olive skin, seductive eyes, and such a sexy way of moving. Our bodies danced perfectly together and after a while I noticed all eyes on us. At one point I caught sight of us in a mirror. Damn, I have to admit, we did look good. : )

Monica and I danced for at least 2 hours. Then we got drinks and talked a bit. She was such a cutie! Turns out she was a singer in a band and in P-Town visiting her friend for the week.

"Where are you from?" I asked.

I was so bummed when her answer was, "Chicago." Well, doesn't that suck. Oh well!

We danced the rest of the night together and had a great time. We exchanged numbers and e-mail addresses, so if anything else, I made a new friend.

After the club closed, Tabs wanted pizza. So we went over to this place called Spiritus. WHAT A MOB SCENE!!! I have never seen so many shirtless cute boys in my entire life!

There were barely any women anywhere! Turns out there was an event called a "Circuit Party" for the 4th of July weekend. It's male specific. Whoops!

So, I was thinking the task of getting Tabs a pepperoni slice was going to be near impossible. Tabs got in line behind the mob. I, on the other hand, slinked around the side and managed to get right up front. This guy tapped me on the shoulder, "Honey, can you order me a large cheese pizza?"

"Sure!" I replied.

I placed the order in addition to Tabs' pepperoni slice.

"$15.50," the cashier replied.

I turned to the guy, "$15.50."

He handed me the money, which I, in turn, passed to the clerk. She gave me the pepperoni slice.

"Listen for the name 'Liz,'" I told the guy.

He thanked me and kissed me on the cheek. "No, thank *you,*" I thought. He just bought Tabs a slice. : )

I struggled my way through the crowd and found Tabs somethere in the middle. Triumphantly I held up her slice.

"How the hell did you do that?!" she asked.

I just grinned at her, winked, then said, "I have my ways..."

"You sure do...!" she said.

I was pretty buzzed during the walk back to her room. But I couldn't believe how much fun I'd had, despite the mullets and bad music.

As we strolled along Commercial Street, dodging drunken gay boys, Lisa said, "I just can't believe it. You're barely here one night and you get a number..."

I just laughed and shrugged my shoulders.

Whew!

Okay, so I'm standing here at the Fitness Desk when the Front Desk calls up, frantic, "Hi, Liz, do you see anyone in the Spin Studio?"

I lean over the desk and peek into Studio 3. "Yeah, there's a bunch of people warming up on bikes."

"Do you see an instructor in there?"

I peek in again. The instructor bike sat empty.

"No," I replied. "There's no instructor."

"Shoot," she said. "The Spin Instructor never showed up and there's supposed to be a 7:30 class."

I looked at my watch. It was 7:40.

"Is Tara still there?" she asked. Tara is the Lead Fitness Specialist. She's Certified in Spin Instruction.

"No, she left a while ago." I answered.

"Ugh. Dammit," she swore. "Can you give the class?"

"Me??" I asked. "Um, I'm not really dressed for it..." Not to mention I'd never given one before.

Then I looked in the window. There were about 9 people. I remembered a couple times how pissed I was when the instructor didn't show. Especially because I'd dragged my ass all the way out there specifically for the class.

"Okay," I said. "I have a trance CD in the car. I'll go get the CD and give the class, but I'll warn you, it's not going to be all that great..."

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!," she cried. "You'll be great, I'll tell the class, you go ahead and get set up."

Inwardly I groaned. I was wearing the tank top I planned to wear out to the bar after work. That means I was wearing a regular bra underneathe, not to mention I had my glasses on.

I jogged out to my car and grabbed DJ Tiesto's "In Search of Sunrise" mix. It's my latest favorite.

Next thing I know I'm Spinning away. My glasses fogged up and I was drenched in sweat. I miss counted a couple times, but worked the class really hard for 45 minutes. They were good sports about it and I could tell they got a decent workout out of it.

Ugh. So here I am, sweaty and nasty. Oh well. I have 2 hours until I get out of here. Plenty of time to cool down and get cleaned up. I'll be seeing Heather at the bar I'm going out to after I leave, so I don't want to be all stinky. : )

So, on that note, I'm going to post this and tell Part 2 of my P-Town visit...!

Summer 2010

"Just leave it to me..."

After pretty much passing out at about 2:30 a.m., Tabs and I woke up around 9:30 a.m. She got up before I did, got dressed, and went outside to read.

Once she left, I got myself together and we went for a walk. Provincetown is truly beautiful! We took a walk through town, watched the 4th of July parade, walked along the jetty, and just hung out and chatted.

The sun was playing hide-and-seek with the clouds, so we figured we'd try going to the beach. By the time we arrived, the sun pretty much was covered, making a few hazy appearances every so often.

Tabs read a book and I snoozed for a bit. After a couple hours we decided we were hungry, so we went into town and each had a wrap and just people watched.

Around 4 o'clock we headed to a resort called The Boatslip. They have a "Tea Dance" from 4 until 7 p.m. And since I can't get enough of dancing, we just *had* to go.

While we were there, Tabs and I saw a woman that she recognized from the gym she works out at. She doesn't work out at HW, it's more convenient for her to go to a place by her day job.

We'd seen this woman a few times during the past day. At one point Tabs said "hi" to her and they chatted a bit. I could tell Tabs had a crush, so I asked her about it later.

Sure enough, I was right. And I was impressed! Tabs and I have different tastes in women. But this woman was really cute! She was probably 5' 10", short brownish-blond hair, and clearly very athletic.

So while Tabs and I were dancing we spotted her on the main dance floor with a few of her friends.

"Tabs, go say hi to your friend," I told her.

"No," she said. "I don't want her to think I'm overbearing."

"What?!" I said, incredulously. "The only way you're overbearing is if you went up and hovered around her the rest of the time. Saying hello is *not*."

"No," she still refused.

I just shook my head at her and kept dancing.

"Not everyone's as outgoing as you, Liz. We can't all just walk around picking up numbers," she said, smirking.

I just laughed. Finally we got too hot from dancing and decided to get drinks. As we made our way off the floor and to the patio, we passed by Tabs' Crush. I reached out and grabbed her arm, "Hey...!" I said.

"Hi!" she smiled. "How are you?"

We made small talk for a bit. Tabs' Crush introduced us to her two friends who were a couple. Then they went off and it was just me, Tabs and Tabs' Crush. I was trying to steer the conversation to go just between them. I looked for something to cause me to walk away. Suddenly I heard a gay boy say to someone, "So give me your honest opinion. Does this make him look too butch?"

I turned around and decided to jump in on the conversation. "What are we debating here?" I asked.

"This leather bracelet. Does it make him look too butch?" a guy asked me as he pointed to his friend.

I looked the leather bracelet boy up and down. Hmm. I decided it would take a hell of a lot more to make this sweet looking guy appear butch. Like about 20 pounds of muscle, full leather ensemble, tattoos, and a beard.

I shook my head, "No way! I think it looks cute on you!"

So I started chatting with the group of guys and then went on the dance floor with them, leaving Tabs and her Crush to chat alone. After dancing for 45 minutes, I went back and joined Tabs and her Crush, plus Tabs' Crush's friends. I walked up as Tabs' Crush said, "Yeah, I gotta get going soon."

I said, "why?"

"Because I have to take the ferry back and it leaves at 7:30."

I looked at my watch. It was 6:45.

"Where are you going?" I asked her.

"Arlington," she answered.

"Well, I'm going to Watertown, so I'd be happy to give you a ride," I offered.

"Really?" she asked. "That would be so awesome!"

"Sure!" I said. I was *thrilled*! Perfect opportunity to talk Tabs up for 2.5 hours. Hee hee hee!

We decided we'd leave about 7:30. I was sick of dancing at that point and was craving ice cream in the worst way. So Tabs and I went off to Ben and Jerry's and I promised Tabs' Crush that I'd return to get her at 7:30.

As we walked along I told Tabs' my plan. She looked at me and said, "Liz, you are so awesome. And I will finally admit, you are the master. You are just so good at this stuff..!"

"Ha," I said. "It's more or less just luck."

So, 15 minutes later I was happily eating a waffle cone stuffed with Cherry Garcia ice cream. Tabs and I slowly headed back to Tea Dance.

7:30 I loaded Tabs' Crush's stuff into my SUV. While I was doing that, Tabs and her Crush chatted about working out. Tabs did everything according to plan:

"Yeah, so we should totally work out together. Let me give you my nunber..." she said as she wrote her info. on her business card.

Behind Tabs' Crush's back I winked at Tabs. She gave me a small smile.

By 7:45 Tabs' Crush and I were on our way. And what I thought would be a simple drive turned into a huge adventure, which I will detail in a new post. : )
