"Oh baby, when you talk like tha-a-a-a-a-at..."
I was running errands in my car and wasn't really paying attention to the radio until an irritating voice pierced through my consciousness- and soon after, my nerves.
"Oh baby, when you talk like tha-a-a-a-a-at..."
I looked down at my Sirius receiver display, half expecting it to say "Billy Goat Salsa." Instead it said "Shakira- Hips Don't Lie."
Yuck.
You can hear it for yourself here. She gets really goat-ish at about 1:40 into it.
My other issue is that the lyrics are pretty stupid. Although it's really not Shakira's worst. "Whenever Wherever" takes that prize. Observe the brilliance:
Lucky that my breasts are small and humble
So you don't confuse them with mountains
Lucky I have strong legs like my mother
To run for cover when I need it
And these two eyes that for no other
The day you leave will cry a river
Le ro le le lo le, Le ro le le lo le
At your feet
I'm at your feet
I don't buy that it's a Spanish-to-English translation issue because the words rhyme.
But I will offer Shakira a translation that makes complete sense:
¡Su música aspira!
