Green Spikes

I'm hoping that any of you gardeners out there can help me solve a mystery. This past summer I noticed a little vine growing up my fence that looked much like one that grows cucumbers or grapes. So I watched as it became fuller and sprouted the little white flowers that eventually gave way to little green buds. At that point I'd guessed they were cucumbers.

But then this weekend I went out to check on it and the little greens buds had grown into these:

I can't figure out what these freaky spiked things are. They're neat looking, but... what do I do with them??

Anyway, in other news I have been rowing with my Crew team for the past month. They asked me to return to compete in the Head of the Charles, so of course I couldn't pass that opportunity up!

This past weekend we rowed in the Head of the Housatonic and it was okay. We are a strong set of girls, but we have some bugs to work out. The weather was nice, at least. I did get a kick out of the lone picture I managed to get of my boat... you can't see any of our faces! We look so sketchy:

Can you tell which one's me?

Between getting up each day at 4:50 a.m., evening workouts 3 times a week and then ice hockey on the weekends, I'm pretty tired these days. Plus I've gone back and forth to NY a couple of times. Last week it was to meet with my client that handles the voting for FOX shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. So when I saw this fabulous cut out of Ryan Seacrest, I just had to pose with it:

Oh and for anyone who remembers Jack, I got to see him last week as well. Tina and I visited him at his family's house and I couldn't believe it when I saw him. He's HUGE!

He's very fluffy and all muscle, but he has to be at least 15 to 18 pounds. And he's still very much like a puppy. He came when called, sat in front of the door, didn't try to run out when it was left open and he still let us pick him up and toss him around. We definitely miss him!

And that's that for now. Back to work!
