I waited patiently as the familiar automated voice said, "You have 1 new message and 10 saved messages."
I selected the option to hear my message.
"First new message... received... today at... 7:03 p.m." a quick pause, then my heart began to pound as a very familiar female voice with a very heavy Swedish accent sang, "Everybody plays the fooooool... no exception to the ruuuuuule."
Katarina!!!!! One of my best friends in the whole world! We did Crew for 3 years together and she'd moved to San Diego last year.
"Lees! Eet's your favorite Swede! Kat!" she said, giggling. "I'm een Boston for a couple months, so we have to hang out! I've missed you so much! Call me back...!"
I couldn't dial the phone fast enough!!!!!
"Hay-lo?" Katarina answered.
We chatted for about an hour. It was so great to talk to her! Same old Kat! It was as if no time had passed. I told her how great it was to hear her singing. Kat used to make us laugh at 5:00 a.m. as we'd carry the boats down to the water. She'd sit on this big metal storage box and sing random songs at us.
Kat and I had some crazy times... Our favorite thing to do was go out and flirt with guys, get them to buy us drinks, then be like, "Thanks! Bye...!" and walk off. Terrible, I know.
"Kat!" I said. "What are you doing here???"
Kat explained that she was working a part time job here and wanted to visit before she becomes a police officer in San Diego. How cool!
And, of course, I couldn't help but shake my head when she said, "Lees! I made this friend out there. Her name's Suzana. As soon as I met her, I immediately was reminded of you. She even looks like you! You both have a ton of energy and would get along great!"
"Oh really?" I asked. "So there's a West Coast Liz Erk?"
"Yep," she giggled. "She's very pretty, you'll just love her."
"Wait," I said. "What?" I suddenly saw where she was going.
"Lees!" she kept on. "You two will just fall in love, I know it! I have this feeling and I know it's right! She's 24 and is excited to meet you. I told her all about you. You have to e-mail her. Do it as soon as we hang up. Oh and give her your journal address, too..."
"Wait, Kat," I interrupted. "She lives in San Diego, I live here. How's that going to work."
"Lees," she paused. "She really wants to move to Boston for a few months, to see what it's like. And she wants to visit NY, too."
Oh. Well, in that case... : )
I've always trusted Kat's judgement, so of course I e-mailed the woman when we hung up. Hee hee hee. I love Kat. She's the best. She's straight, but loves that I'm bi. That means we get to go out and flirt with guys together. I know I'll end up with a girl in the long run, so Kat's looking out for me.
We're going to get dinner this week. Perhaps we'll even go out to our favorite bars and dupe some poor guys into a round of drink-buying... >:)
